Instagram Trends Every Small Business Should Know in 2024

2024 Instagram Trends on pink laptop screen

Hey there! Jana Earley here, founder of Niche Creative Agency. If you're like me, staying on top of Instagram trends can feel like a full-time job. But don't worry, I've got the latest scoop from and I'm excited to share it with you. Let's dive into what's hot on Instagram for 2024!

Consistency Matters, But Don't Stress About Daily Posts

Consistency is key, but you don't need to post daily anymore. Meta emphasizes the importance of posting at least three times a week, or at minimum every other day, to stay in the algorithm’s good graces. If you post daily, you're golden. But for those juggling multiple tasks or needing a break, three times a week is your sweet spot.

Reels: The Organic Growth Powerhouse

Probably not a shocker, but Reels are the best way to grow your page organically. If you're not already creating Reels, now's the time to start. The consenus amongst experts is paying for ads can help you up until you hit 10k followers. After that, it's more financially viable to focus on hitting the algorithm with Reels.

Hashtags Still Matter

This one surprised me, hashtags do still matter, but you should use 3-5 niche hashtags. Gone are the days of spamming 30 random hashtags. Be strategic and select ones that are relevant to your content and audience.

Carousel Posts for Engagement

If your goal is engagement over growth, then carousel posts are your best friend. These static posts with multiple slides can keep your audience engaged longer than single-slide posts. Single-slide static posts don’t do much for engagement.

Timing is Everything

Schedule your posts around when your followers are most active. You can find this info in your business page stats. I've started doing this and noticed a significant uptick in engagement. Timing your posts right can make all the difference.

Use Trending Audio

Incorporate trending audio in your Reels to increase their reach. This small tweak can help you tap into broader trends and attract new followers.

Avoid Watermarked Content

Lastly, don't post watermarked content or crosspost from other platforms. This was a hot topic and Meta emphasizes avoiding this. Instagram's algorithm doesn't favor watermarked content, so keep it clean and original.

Final Thoughts

Staying updated with these trends can give your small business a competitive edge on Instagram. Remember, consistency is key, Reels are your growth powerhouse, and timing your posts can boost engagement. Ready to take your Instagram game to the next level?

Let's make 2024 the year your small business shines on Instagram!
